Legal Notice
Last updated: 14 October 2026.
This is a courtesy translation. The binding version of this document is the Spanish one, available at www.homeconomy.app/es/legal-notice; in the event of any discrepancy, the Spanish text prevails.
1. Identification of the owner and scope of this legal notice
Homeconomy is a personal project owned by José Antonio Jiménez, who can be contacted by email at jajimenez+homeconomy@gmail.com.
This legal notice covers the two sites from which Homeconomy is offered, which do different things and are therefore named differently throughout:
- The public site (www.homeconomy.app): the presentation pages and these two legal documents. Read with no account and nothing to submit.
- The application (app.homeconomy.app): the actual household finance dashboard, where the user records their data.
When a section says "the application" it refers only to the second one, and when something applies to both it says "both sites". By accessing and using either of them, the user accepts this legal notice and the terms of use described below.
2. Purpose of the application
Homeconomy is a tool for personal household finance management: recording transactions with their categories and tags, scheduled transactions and templates, reports, budgeted projects, loans between individuals, shared pots (which can be opened up to other people), ledgers for keeping different areas apart — such as the household's money and one's own — and the people directory associated with all of that. It is offered on a not-for-profit basis and does not constitute financial, tax or investment advice of any kind; any financial decisions the user makes based on the information shown are their sole responsibility.
The public site does not offer any of those features: it is limited to presenting the application and hosting these two legal documents. What is shown there of the application is a demo with made-up data, unrelated to anyone's data.
3. Terms of use
The user agrees to:
- Use both sites in accordance with the law, good faith and public policy.
- Not use them for fraudulent purposes, nor carry out actions that could damage, disable or overload the service, or prevent its normal use by other users.
- Not attempt to access areas, data or accounts of the application for which they are not authorized.
- Be solely responsible for the truthfulness and accuracy of the financial data they enter.
- Also be solely responsible for any third-party data they choose to record (names, relationship and notes of the people with whom they share loans, pots or expenses), and for using it only within the personal and household scope for which the application is offered.
- Also be solely responsible for whom they give access to a shared pot and for the channel they use to get the invitation link, code or QR code to them: anyone who has the link can read the pot, and that channel is the user's choice and lies outside the application.
The owner may modify, suspend or discontinue access to either site, in whole or in part, at any time and without prior notice, without this giving rise to any right to compensation.
4. Data storage and processing
Homeconomy works as an offline-first progressive web app (PWA): by default, all the data the user enters (transactions, categories, tags, scheduled items and templates, projects, loans, pots, ledgers and people) is stored locally on the user's own device, using IndexedDB, and, unless the user chooses to share a pot (see below), is not sent to or shared with the owner or any third party through any server. The browser's local storage also holds a handful of technical preferences (the theme, the sync status and, if the user explicitly asks for it, the encryption password remembered on that device), which likewise never leave it. The cookie decision is stored separately, in the app's own cookie described in the Privacy Policy.
The application optionally offers, off by default, syncing that data between the user's devices through Dexie Cloud (Awarica AB, Sweden). If the user turns this feature on, end-to-end encryption of the financial content before sending it is mandatory, not optional, with a key that stays on their devices: neither the owner nor Dexie Cloud/Awarica AB can read that content under any circumstances. The details of what is sent, to whom, and under what conditions are described in the Privacy Policy.
A shared pot can also be opened up to other people, at the decision of the pot's owner and only to people who are already part of it. Its content is encrypted with a key of the pot's own that neither the owner of the application nor Dexie Cloud/Awarica AB has, but the email addresses of the people with access are visible to that service and to the other people with access to the pot. What each person sees, what stays unencrypted and what happens when someone is removed are described in the Privacy Policy.
Accordingly, it is the user's sole responsibility to make regular backups of their information using the backup tool available in the Settings section, especially if they do not turn on syncing: without it, the owner has no access to the data and cannot recover it in the event of loss or deletion of the browser or the device. The owner will not be liable for data loss arising from device failure, browser failure, accidental deletion, a forgotten encryption password, or any other cause beyond their control.
The application — and only the application, not the public site — uses service worker technology for strictly technical purposes (offline operation and improved performance), with no tracking or advertising purpose.
None of the above is stored on the public site: there is no account, no financial data, and no local storage beyond the cookie that remembers the cookie decision.
Additionally, both sites use Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights (the hosting provider's own usage and performance analytics, cookie-free) and Google Tag Manager (to allow third-party analytics services to be configured, which only load if the user gives express consent in the cookie banner). Details of this processing, including how to change or withdraw consent for Google Tag Manager, are described in the Privacy Policy.
5. Intellectual and industrial property
The code, design, navigation structure and other elements of Homeconomy are the property of the owner or are used under the corresponding authorization. Their reproduction, distribution or transformation, in whole or in part, is prohibited without express authorization, except as permitted by the license under which the project's source code may be published.
6. Disclaimer of warranties and liability
Homeconomy is provided "as is", with no warranties of any kind, express or implied, as to its continuous availability, absence of errors, or fitness for a particular purpose. The owner does not warrant the accuracy, completeness or currency of the calculations, reports or summaries generated, and will not be liable for damages or losses arising from the use or inability to use either site.
7. Changes
The owner may modify this legal notice and the terms of use at any time to adapt them to changes to either site or to applicable law. Changes will be deemed accepted through the continued use of Homeconomy after they are published on this same page.
8. Governing law
This legal notice is governed by Spanish law. Any dispute arising from access to or use of either site will be submitted to the courts and tribunals that have jurisdiction under applicable law.
